aimWest is a nonprofit professional association that
supports and promotes the growth of the interactive and technology industries
throughout West Michigan.
History
A group of Web professionals in Grand Rapids, Michigan -- Jim Barry, David Ellyatt, Jennifer Jurgens, Tonya Wilholt, and Mike Fowler -- started the organization in late 2000. They recognized the lack of support for local interactive technology professionals, and wanted to provide a resource and participation experience that had not previously offered in the West Michigan area. In 2007, the organization renamed itself to aimWest.
Events and Community
Our organization typically gets together on the fourth Thursday of each month
(unless there is a scheduling conflict or a holiday falls close to that date).
We try to have six to eight Learning Events per year which include a short
networking session, and then a presentation or panel discussion. Our other
sessions are called Tech 5:01 gatherings, which are casual events that focus on
networking and getting to know your fellow aimWest community.
aimWest events consistently draw an attendance of about 50 per event and
sometimes up to 150. Our events feature attendees and members who use, manage,
or promote technology in their work. This includes managers, developers,
designers, business development executives, or students.
