December: holiday party

glimaWest held its annual holiday party Dec. 11 at the Eberhard Center at GVSU. The event was highlighted by a presentation by Doug Brown, former Detroit Red Wing and current spokesperson for Sun Microsystems.

In a highly interactive discussion, Brown discussed how to create a winning team in the information technology industry and beyond, along with his hockey career, gossip on Red Wings of past and present and the differences (and similarities) between the worlds of hockey and business.

Sponsored by Sun Microsystems, Hitachi Data Systems and Paragon Recruiting, the event also featured the debut of a new special networking session over dinner. Each table spent several minutes discussing the question "What do you think is the most important part of teamwork?" The interaction led to several new contacts and relationships among those attending the event.

"This was a unique experience for glimaWest members, as Doug Brown shared his unique insights on topics that ranged from hockey to technology to sales and business," said Darren Brown, president of glimaWest. "It was a successful party to celebrate a successful year for glimaWest and its membership."
