Located in Grand Valley State University's new $60 million Cook-DeVos
Center for Health Sciences, the West Michigan Science & Technology Initiative
dedicates time to helping science and technology entrepreneurs commercialize
their discoveries.
The West Michigan Science and Technology Initiative was formed in 2003 as a
partnership between the Right Place, Inc., Van Andel Research Institute, Grand
Valley State University, the City of Grand Rapids and Grand Rapids Community
College. The partnership has recently expanded to include Spectrum Health,
Saint Mary's Healthcare, Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital, and the Grand
Angels.
This partnership was formed to bring together the product development tools,
amenities and community assets an innovator, entrepreneur, or small business
needs to make their ideas a business reality.
WMSTI also accomodates client needs by offering incubator/accelerator amenities
through the Product Development Center located on the 5th floor of the

The City is involved in testing and planning for a ubiquitous wireless broadband network covering our City for many reasons, most important of which is Public Safety. Wireless broadband will dramatically increase the information available to mobile police officers and fire fighters including Amber Alerts, criminal photographs, building schematics, hazardous chemical information, and other important data not currently available in the field.
